Velocity reveals another up-to-the-minute smartphone
Velocity Mobile has exposed their latest Velocity 83 recently in California. The slim smartphone boasts of a GPS receiver as well as 2 micro-SD slots, one for storage and the other one to support the GPS software.
The spacious Velocity 83 is fabricated with a 2.8 inches touch-sensitive LCD and a 2 megapixel camera right at the rear side of the phone. Its screen enables the user to navigate the cell phone via Velocity-developed Odyssey interface while WiFi is set within the gadget for express data. Velocity 83 comes with a quad –band GSM support and is powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional.

Zi Corporation today announced Samsung has integrated Zi Corporation’s eZiText and Decuma text entry solutions onto its L258 and G618 handsets in China. Decuma Chinese V4.1 handwriting recognition technology bundled with predictive text entry software eZiText, to provide Samsung with a complete text input solution.
The Company’s products have been licensed to Samsung for use on the L258 handset, which went on sale this spring in China. The G618 handset has received extensive press coverage as Samsung’s donation to athletes, coaches and staff for the Chinese Olympic Team.

Lenovo Launches P960 Mobile Phone with Fingerprint Biometrics Security
Atrua Technologies announced today that Lenovo Mobile selected Atrua’s made-for-mobile fingerprint solution for Lenovo’s recently launched P960 mobile phone. In addition, Lenovo’s P960 has an innovative “VIP recording” feature that automatically records calls from designated numbers. When is the time that Sony PSP Phone is available? Probably there is no answer yet but the great chinese is showing off their hacking skill. Besides you can use the Skype to make VoIP calls with your PSP portable gaming machine, one of the guy has decided to integrate his Haier mini phone with his PSP.
With some hacking works, the UMD disc reader has been replaced with the Haier mobile phone. The phone is now powered by the PSP battery, plus the phone antenna is extended inside the PSP casing. No worry for the phone keypad though, all numeric and text input can be touch through the full touch screen. Not the best hacking, but this could be their first step before they add an extra wireless module and use together with the PSP display screen.

Purple Labs to Acquire Sagem Mobile Application Software
Purple Labs has signed a memorandum of understanding to acquire the mobile applications suite and software engineering team of Sagem Mobiles, a French manufacturer that develops mobile phones branded by Sony Ericsson, Orange, Vodafone and other customers. The asset sale to Purple Labs is linked to an announcement by SAFRAN, a French technology group, that it is selling its Sagem Mobiles business unit to Sofinnova Partners. SAFRAN will join Sofinnova as a shareholder in the new entity, which will be called Sagem Wireless. 
Purple Labs and Sagem Wireless also agreed to enter into a multi-year license and development agreement, whereby Purple Labs will provide Sagem Wireless with all of the application software for its products, and all of the software for its future 3G Linux devices based on LiMo Foundation requirements.
Both deals are expected to close by the end of this year, subject to the approval of employee representative bodies. Based in Chambéry, France, Purple Labs is funded by three European venture capital firms: Sofinnova Partners, Earlybird Venture Capital, and Partners Group.

LiMo Foundation now on top 50

Garmin Postpone Nuvifone to First Half of 2009
Supposed to be released in Q4 this year, Garmin has decided to postpone the Nuvifone to first half of 2009. According to the release, the company has to spend more time in meeting some carrier specific requirements. No specific date is given in their announcement.
The Garmin Nuvifone is a full touch screen phone with a 3.5-inch size display screen and pre-loaded maps for navigation. The last time we check on them during the CommunicAsia 2008 in June, the Nuvifone does have a solid software with responsive touch experience on top of the integrated Garmin navigation solution. Sprint today introduces the launch of Sprint Web, offering an adaptive home page that delivers content based on the customer’s previous usage, along with direct access to search from Google.
The new Sprint Web home page uses technology by ChangingWorlds, to provide each customer with dynamic, relevant content and information as a result of their past usage. For example, if a customer continually goes to sports links, the top sports stories will be featured. This allows customers to quickly get relevant information based on what they use most, making it easier to navigate the Internet on their phones and reducing the time they spend looking for content. To access Sprint Web, customers simply click the Web icon on the main menu of their phone.
Sprint Web also gives customers direct access from the home page to Google search, so users can get relevant open Internet results quickly and easily, in a format they’re used to seeing on their computer screens. Sprint Web is available today on 40+ popular Sprint phones, including RAZR2 by Motorola, Centro by Palm, Rumor by LG, Upstage by Samsung, and Katana DLX by Sanyo. Sprint plans to make Sprint Web available on virtually all Web-capable Sprint feature phones over the coming weeks.
