New Enhancements Deliver More of What Consumers Want: Intuitive Design, Open Content, Hyper-personalized Home Page
LAS VEGAS, (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) today announced the launch of the all-new Yahoo! Go 3.0, Yahoo!'s flagship all-in-one mobile offering, in early beta at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2008, further solidifying Yahoo!'s leadership position in delivering leading-edge mobile experiences to consumers worldwide. Thanks to the feedback from many of our Yahoo! Go 2.0 users, this new product is designed to deliver more of what consumers want, wherever however and whenever they want it. Yahoo! Go 3.0 takes mobile services to the next level with an upgraded and feature-rich user interface, a truly personalized start page and customizable access to consumers' favorite Internet brands and services through easy-to-use third-party widgets.
Consumers in the U.S. can download Yahoo! Go 3.0 (http://go.yahoo.com) on more than 30 mobile devices from major manufacturers worldwide and use it on most wireless networks. Over the coming months, Yahoo! Go 3.0 is expected to be available on hundreds of devices worldwide, accessible by hundreds of millions of users.
"Today's launch of Yahoo! Go 3.0 is a game-changing mobile development from Yahoo!. This new open environment provides consumers with a highly-compelling user experience and robust, personalized starting point to the mobile Internet. We are providing users with increased control over their experiences as well as increased choice in getting the content and services they want while on the go," said Marco Boerries, executive vice president, Connected Life, Yahoo!. "With our innovative mobile services like Yahoo! Go 3.0 and deep partnerships across the industry, we are focused on making the promise of the mobile Internet a reality for consumers around the world."
UPGRADED DESIGN
Yahoo! Go 3.0 offers an intuitive and rich design that makes efficient use of the phone's small screen and speeds consumers' ability to find the information they need on the mobile Internet. This enhanced experience is both visually stunning and highly functional, enabling consumers to easily navigate Yahoo! Go 3.0 through a choice of two views - either the traditional carousel or the new icon layout.
THE IDEAL STARTING POINT
The new Home widget for Yahoo! Go 3.0 is an innovative gateway for consumers to get where they're going on the mobile Internet. It offers an at-a-glance update of what's new since the last visit; such as how many new e-mails have arrived, upcoming calendar appointments, and new photos posted to Flickr by friends. The Home widget also includes a customizable collection of mobile snippets - previews of the user's favorite Web content - news headlines, weather conditions and more - to keep users updated while on the go. Also, it allows the user to get quickly where they want to go on the mobile Internet via Yahoo! oneSearch.
In related news, Yahoo! introduced a similar home page experience for select mobile browsers visiting http://beta.m.yahoo.com. (see release titled: "Yahoo! Redesigns Mobile Home Page to be the Essential Starting Point for Mobile Consumers" for more information)
GET EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT
For the first time ever, consumers can enjoy their favorite Internet content and services from leading mobile publishers within a single client on their phone. Later this week, consumers will be able to access widgets from eBay, MySpace and MTV by selecting them from the Widget Gallery in Yahoo! Go 3.0. The Widget Gallery will showcase both Yahoo! Mobile Widgets as well as a growing selection of widgets from third-party developers.
With the introduction of third-party mobile widgets, Yahoo! enables developers and publishers to bring their content and creativity to millions of mobile users with ease - thus enhancing users' choice and control over their mobile Internet experience. By satisfying consumer demand for relevant and personalized mobile experiences, Yahoo! Go 3.0 is expected to usher in a dramatic acceleration in the adoption of the mobile Internet.
Additional details on Yahoo!'s Mobile Widget Platform can be found in the accompanying announcement released today. (see release titled: "Yahoo! Mobile Developer Platform to Enable Developers and Publishers to Build Applications with Instant Reach Across Hundreds of Devices" for more information)
Yahoo! Go 3.0 features display advertising from Yahoo!'s major global advertisers. Consumers can interact with these ads through functionality such as clicking to call the advertiser directly or to learn more information about the advertiser's offer.
