NTT DOCOMO and RIM to Launch BlackBerry Bold in Japan

NTT DOCOMO and Research In Motion (RIM) today announced plans to launch the 3G/HSDPA BlackBerry Bold smartphone for customers in Japan in early 2009. The BlackBerry Bold smartphone leverages DOCOMO’s high-speed 3G and HSDPA networks and features a newly designed QWERTY keyboard, built-in GPS, Wi-Fi and 2 megapixel camera.

The elegant design houses a comprehensive suite of new features as well as the traditional functionality of the BlackBerry platform that users have come to know and love,” said Mr. Ryuji Yamada, President and CEO of DOCOMO. “We’re pleased to announce plans for DOCOMO to bring it to Japan.”

The BlackBerry Bold will be showcased at CEATEC Japan 2008 from September 30 to October 4, 2008.

The BlackBerry Bold smartphone from DOCOMO features:

* Weight: 136 grams
* Quad-band HSDPA and quad-band GSM/EDGE support for global roaming
* HVGA (480×320 resolution at 217 ppi) color display
* HTML browser
* Wi-Fi (802.11 a/b/g)
* Built-in GPS
* 1 GB on-board storage memory
* microSD/SDHC memory card slot for up to 16GB of additional storage
* A removable/rechargeable 1500 mAhr battery
* An optional 2 megapixel camera with digital zoom, built-in flash and video recording
* Bluetooth (2.0)
