Following the pieces info of the LG GM730 Windows phone, LG has made the official announcement in its press event today, although it is still lacking some final technical specifications. Powered by the new Windows Mobile 6.5 OS and 3D S-Class UI, the GM730 has a 528 MHz Qualcomm cpu, 128 MB RAM, 256 MB ROM, 5 megapixel camera, built in GPS, FM Receiver and WQVGA screen (240 x 400 pixels). It will be available in first half of 2009 with Windows Mobile 6.1, follow by Windows Mobile 6.5 by the end of this year.
”The combination of Windows Mobile and our new 3D S-Class User Interface will make the LG-GM730 the most functional and easiest to use smartphone ever created,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Mobile Communications Company. “This phone is a springboard for us. We will launch a number of smartphones this year; most of them will follow this same winning formula.”
Built-around a 3D cube layout, S-Class User Interface provides four customizable home screens. The simple flick of a finger instantly turns the cube from one side to the next. S-Class User Interface eliminates nested menus wherever possible, providing more direct access to features and applications. Even setup for e-mail is simplified, requiring just one click. Internet Explorer 6.0 enhances the web experience.
LG Electronics (LG) and Microsoft today also announced an expanded alliance to increase the number of LG phones running Windows. As part of the agreement, LG will make Windows its primary operating system for its smartphones and will increase both the number of Windows phones in its portfolio and the total volume of Windows phones it distributes. This will create a tenfold increase in the volume of Windows phones available from LG in 2009 and bring up to 26 new Windows phones to market in 2012 alone. Overall, the agreement can result in more than 50 new LG Windows phones.
